Lizzo joined a prog-rock group where she sang and occasionally played the flute. Her family had moved to Denver which left Lizzo alone to begin her career in Houston. Lizzo was living on her own in her car, and sometimes lying on the floor in her studio recording studio, and washed in the gym. Lizzo's father died when she was twenty-one. They had been close and it was a heartbreaking loss. Following the death of her father, Lizzo walked away from the prog-rock group in 2010. Following a brief stop in Denver, Lizzo moved to Minneapolis in 2011 on the advice by a close friend. Lizzo soon was in the center of the music scene. She was a part of the girl group Chalice, GRRRL PRTY. Her debut album, Lizzobangers, came out in 2013 on an independent label.
